E-News from St. Joe's Foundation | 2023 July Edition We’re Fur-Ever Grateful to 100 Women Who Care
Thank you to 100 Women Who Care Hamilton-Wentworth for their generous donation of $11,600 to support St. Joe’s new dog-tor, Scout, as he em-barks on his important therapeutic work at our Hospital. Scout is a part of Paws for Wellness, a program that brings regular therapy dog visits to St. Joe’s Forensic Mental Health Unit. Visits from Scout are helping to lower levels of anxiety, depression and isolation for those being cared for on the unit. This gift will help provide the necessary training, food, and veterinary care needed to ensure Scout is able to keep making a difference in the lives of our patients. It will also bring St. Joe’s one step closer to adding another paw-lleague to the care team. Donations Keep Our Mobile Mental Health Unit Rolling
When clients have a hard time making their way to the Hospital, our care teams take to the road. St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton’s Mobile Mental Health Clinic brings much-needed outpatient care to the doorsteps of clients living with schizophrenia. The van was launched at the height of the pandemic as a way to ensure clients were continuing to receive their regular injections of medication while also reducing foot traffic in the Hospital to prevent the spread of COVID-19. But what began as a short-term necessity, has turned into a successful long-term model that wraps care around the client, helping them to access care wherever they are. Over the past few years, generous donations from Hamilton Community Foundation, SC Johnson, Alectra Utilities and an anonymous donor have helped to keep the mobile mental health unit rolling. On Saturday, June 17, more than 1,150 people took part in Hamilton’s Shoppers Drug Mart® Run for Women and helped to raise an all-time high of $151,000 for mental health and addiction care at St. Joe’s. We’re forever grateful to all of our walkers, runners, fundraisers and sponsors! A special shout out to our Community Champion, Anneliese Lawton, who rallied support for the cause by sharing her experience with postpartum depression, and for letting other women know they’re not alone and care is available right here at St. Joe’s. We are also thankful to our friends and partners at Shoppers Drug Mart who have selected St. Joe’s as the beneficiary of the run since 2018. Over the past six years, more than $650,000 has been raised and those funds are helping women across the region access the mental health and addictions care they need.
