A Gift from LiUNA Paints a Brighter Future for Emergency Mental Health Services at St. Joe’s

LiUNA, the union whose members have built much of Hamilton’s cityscape, has made a half-million-dollar donation to help St. Joe’s build a larger, brighter and recovery-focused home for emergency mental healthcare. And we couldn’t be more grateful for this generous gift.

St. Joe’s Emergency Mental Health Service (EMHS) is seeing its highest patient volumes ever as more people are struggling with depression, anxiety, and addiction during COVID-19. To meet the growing demand for care, LiUNA’s $500,000 donation will help us redevelop the EMHS by doubling the footprint of the unit to expand its specialized services.

In addition to the gift, Joseph S. Mancinelli, LiUNA’s International Vice President and Regional Manager of Central and Eastern Canada, also donated a limited-edition giclée painting entitled Frontline Heroes. Click here to view the painting and read more about this remarkable gift made during the season of giving. To support our EMHS redevelopment project with a gift of your own, make a donation.

Announcing our 2021 Patient Comfort and Kindness Grants with thanks to the Ever Hopeful Fund

For the second year in a row, thanks to a generous gift of $100,000 from an anonymous donor known as the Ever Hopeful Fund, our Foundation is pleased to be providing more Patient Comfort & Kindness grants than ever before to benefit programs and departments across our Hospital campuses and satellite locations!

Each year, we invite our Hospital staff—on behalf of their departments—to submit applications for a grant of up to $5,000 to help cover the costs of “little things” that are not eligible for provincial funding yet make a big difference in improving our patients’ care.

This year, a record number of 56 grants were issued for everything from baby bassinets in our birthing unit to pillows in the Emergency Department and Bluetooth speakers and a boombox for patients living with dementia in Complex Care. Read about all of the grants here!
