Meet Theo Fleury at A Mental Health Morning
As an NHL
Stanley Cup Champion, Theo Fleury is best known for his time on the
ice. But off the rink, he lived with the effects of a troubled
childhood and abuse, causing him to cope with his emotional pain through addictive and
self-destructive behaviours. Today, Theo is a champion and motivational agent of change for those living with addiction and he will be bringing his powerful message to our Mental Health Morning event.
A Mental
Health Morning is an annual event hosted by St. Joseph’s Healthcare Foundation
to help break the stigma surrounding mental illness and
addiction. Funds raised will benefit Mental Health and Addiction Services at
St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton which delivers compassionate, innovative and
recovery-focused care to all those who need it.
Join us at A Mental Health Morning, presented by ArcelorMittal
Dofasco, at Michelangelo Events & Conference Centre on Thursday, October 10, 2019.

Our Hospital President on Why Philanthropy is Essential
We’re fortunate
to provide care to a region that is virtually unmatched in its displays of
generosity and philanthropy. Thank you for your unwavering support of our
Hospital and the care we have provided for 129 years and counting. In my
new role as President of St. Joseph's Healthcare Hamilton, one of the
questions I often receive is “If healthcare is publicly funded
through our taxes, why do hospitals need to fundraise?” It’s a fair
question and one that may have crossed the minds of donors like you from time
to time.
While the
provincial government does provide 85 - 100 percent of our Hospital’s
operating costs, these
funds do not cover all of the resources needed to care for the two million
people in our region. Government funding does not account for all of the
costs associated with purchasing equipment, constructing or renovating patient
care facilities, nor investing in research. For these expenses, the Hospital
relies heavily on charitable donations from people like you.
Your
philanthropy, paired with the care St. Joe’s has long provided is a powerful
combination. Your donations have the power to take our facilities, our
equipment, and our research from ordinary to extraordinary. Read more about why
I believe philanthropy is essential to enabling St. Joe's to provide the
very best care possible to you and those you love.

In the spring of 2019, Charles and Margaret Juravinski took the Hamilton and global health care communities by storm when they announced a new $100 million endowment to fund health care research at St. Joseph’s Healthcare Hamilton, McMaster University and Hamilton Health Sciences.

This spring through Around the Bay, Paris to Ancaster and
the Shoppers LOVE. YOU. Run for Women, we raised $625,000 because of you! It is
all thanks to the generosity of our event participants, fundraisers, donors and
friends of St. Joe's.

Robotic Surgery Program, the redevelopment of our Psychiatric Emergency
Service, the renewal of our Dialysis Unit at the Charlton Campus, our women’s mental health
programs and research in several departments across the Hospital.
